Week 6 blog post

Lux makes us believe in miracles by treating the situation as though it could really happen. For example, I would believe that in a certain situation if it rained, spiders would fall into the pool. In my mind they would fall from a nearby tree, not out of the sky, but even the belief in this possibility is believing in a miracle. In some ways, Lux also gets me to believe that I could save the spiders by using a life preserver. I feel like this poem is reminiscent of a human's relationship with a bug in their house. They would at first be confused as to why it was there, but if they were good, they would try to save the bug. Lux allows me to believe in the miracle of being good and saving the spiders, even though I am personally afraid of spiders and would maybe not believe that I could save them from a giant pool.

  1. Hi Monica,

It is humorous how Lux plays on your societal arachnophobia in order to attempt invoke pathos from the readers. The message I got form it is to have empathy for people/things you are fearful of. For spiders in particular, to be more accepting of things are that you are socially and mentally conditioned to be frightened by, although they have a lot of domestic benefits. This also makes me consider other things in my life that I am fearful of, but I actually shouldn't been scared of.
