Week 6 Post

The poem " Imagine the Angels Bread" uses magic to create a unique plot twist. It leaves the out of sort and in array. The world has a set order and we expect certain things to continue on until the end of the time. We live in a hierarchy and those at the top of the food chain mandate what happens to those below. This poem reverses the list and allows the behavior to be reciprocated. I believe this poem's purpose is to make the privilege aware of how they treat others because there will be a day when they will be at the mercy of the oppressed. It makes you think before you mistreat someone again. The question raised should be, "Do you treat others the way you would desire to be treated". In nearly every culture and religion, a statement of karma is mentioned and this poem is no different. It may not occur in the present life, but in some after or next life it will. I could not help but to think of the "Multitudes" that are mentioned in the Holy Bible, Matthew Chapter 5. This poem can also be used as a sign of hope for those who are near the bottom of the hierarchy. It shows that their struggles will not go in vain. They will reap the benefits of the tribulations.  This poem is related to the spider poem because it forces us to analyze how we treat others who are different from us

  1. Hi Lamar,

I find your prospective interesting on this poem, however I have to disagree that the purpose "is to make the privilege aware of how they treat others." In these cases that she brings up, these people in position of authority are not necessarily 'privileged,' yet they may be conditioned to believe that they are morally better. I believe more of making those in a position of power realize and give empathy of those people they chastise or take advantage of. However, I do think it "makes you think before you mistreat someone."
